GlowTouch Mentors Students in Amazing Global Marketplace Competition for Third Consecutive Year

LOUISVILLE – April 28, 2014- GlowTouch Technologies, an award-winning IT services firm providing custom application development and technology integration services to business of all sizes, participated as a mentor company in the Amazing Global Marketplace for its third consecutive year.

Amazing Global Marketplace is an educational program aimed at providing real-world experience to high school students learning about international business. Each team of students is paired with an employee-mentor from a Louisville business who has experience working in international business.

Students prepare for months and are thrust into mock international business scenarios. They are required to arrange travel, learn negotiation skills, learn best practices with different cultures as well as determine currency exchange.

The GlowTouch-mentored team of students from Ballard High School visited the GlowTouch offices on numerous occasions. During these visits, students met with GlowTouch executives, learned about the company and discussed cultural norms. These visits, in addition to other mentoring opportunities, lead up to the Global Marketplace Simulation, the program’s premier closing event.

The closing event for AGM allowed the students to put into practice all they learned throughout the program. They simulated business meetings with individuals from other cultures and communicated through translators, hired mock lawyers to draw up contacts and even had their own exhibit at a mock tradeshow.

“It has been very rewarding working with these students for the past six months,” said Paul Kuamoo, Director of Continuous Improvement at GlowTouch and mentor to the Ballard students. “I hope the experience might inspire them to pursue an education and/or a career in international business.”

High schools participating in this year’s competition included Assumption, Atherton, Central, Doss, Eastern, DuPont Manual, Seneca, and Southern. Mentor companies, in addition to GlowTouch, include DRE, Flavorman, KFC, NaugaNeedles, Papa John’s, WaterStep, Zeon Chemicals, and Zoeller Pump Company.

“Our participation in this program is always a highlight for the GlowTouch team. We enjoy interacting with the young adults from our selected school and teaching them about international business,” said Vidya Ravichandran, President of GlowTouch.
